Nagano Prefecture stretches in south-north direction, and three huge mountains known as Japan’s Alps are located here.

Kamikochi
Kamikochi is Japan’s one of the best mountain resorts.
From more than 100 years ago, the local residents had the awareness of preserving this nature zone, and Kamikochi was designated as national park.
Now as one of protection measures vehicles are prohibited for entering.
It enjoys a high popularity for foreign visitors; about 1.5 million people come here every year.
Kamikochi is located at the elevation of 1500 meters, and walking course is well equipped on the flat ground so travelers can enjoy their walking.
What are worth seeing includes the Alps sceneries, and Taisho Pond, Myojin Pond and Kappa Bridge under which the stream flows.

Jigokudani Monkey Park
Here it is the only hot spring in the world that monkeys soak in.
Jigokudani Monkey Park is located in the valley in the north of Nagano Prefecture.
Being at the elevation of 850 meters this area is covered by snow for almost one third of a year, making it a very harsh environment. The wild Japanese macaques inhabit here.
In Jigokudani Monkey Park during winter the temperature can be around -10 degrees, and the monkeys soak in hot spring so to be able to bear such severe coldness.
Soaking hot spring is just part of their life. When the monkeys get warmed up they will not always stay in the hot spring.
The parent may have baby monkey on their back to get into the hot spring, which is a really lovely and healing scene.
The adorable monkeys here have attracted so many people from all over the world to come for visit.
