World Cultural Heritage Shirakawa-go

Shirakawa-go is located in Shirakawa Village of Gifu Prefecture. It is definitely considered the beautiful collection of Japanese original landscape. In 1995 this area was designated as UNESCO World Cultural Heritage.
The architecture of Shirakawa-go is called “Gassho-zukuri”. The rooftop of this house is designed open for its two ends, thus the rooftop stands like a triangle, being the feature of “Gassho-zukuri”.
These architectures were built 300 years ago. Even now local people are still living in the houses.
In winter during December to January it snows a lot in Shirakawa-go. Light-up is held in this period; at night the lovely triangle houses covered by snow is lightened up. The scene appears in the darkness of night and is just so fantasy.
World Cultural Heritage Shirakawa-go is a typical Japanese sightseeing so please come to enjoy it.
